Corona update from Splinter Collective

Every email I write includes some line about how these are strange times.  When I talk to a friend and one of us asks how the other is doing the answer is a universal shrug.  It’s a strange time to be alive. A strange time to be an artist. A strange time to be in community.  And a very strange time to take over a business that focuses on art and community. But that’s what I just did.

My partner and I closed on the historic Splinter Bros and Sisters Warehouse on January 31st.  It was an incredible moment. I have been dreaming of this for years, and it finally happened.  My community stepped to support and I’ve never worked so hard for something in my life. I started a gofundme and met my goal. It’s here if you’d like to see it for good feels: Splinter Brothers Warehouse Purchase organized by Natalie Brewster Nguyen

And then the entire world pushed pause.  I had a huge list of dreams and goals and ways I wanted to move this building forward and center the community.  I had a huge list of ideas for events and parties and ways to utilize the event space here more regularly. But now…all that is on pause as well.  The warehouse, including Cirque Roots is closed to the public for the foreseeable future. And like the rest of the world, I have no idea when we’ll hit play again.

So this initial blog post is just to say, hello!  I took over this building! It’s thrilling and terrifying and this will be the place to look for announcements, upcoming events, artist profiles, and more in the post corona world.
