Event Job Descriptions

EVENT MANAGER:

Manages individual events and ensures a smooth run-of-show by supporting other Splinter event staff and artists/event producers. The event manager is often the first person to arrive and is responsible for making sure everything is locked up at the end of the night. The Event Manager holds a short meeting debriefing event staff on the night at each shift. They assist in money handling. They assist each position by providing coverage for breaks and bringing change to the bartender and door person as needed. The Event Manager is present for attendee complaints and questions. The Event Manager will have access to info abt each event in advance of their shift. 

The Event Manager ensures closing duties are completed and locks up at the end of the night. They are also responsible for basic shift reporting and event financials as assigned. 

PRODUCTION: 

Production staff generally arrives before load-in to set up the PA before artists arrive. They are generally responsible for sound for the duration of the event. This can sometimes mean you will set up a mic and adjust for readers and backing tracks, other times you may mix entire bands. Production staff will have access to production info in advance of their shift. 

Production staff is also responsible for lighting throughout the event (we have a simple set up). 

This position requires being able to lift up to 30 pounds. In the event that this is not possible, the Door Person, Event Manager, and/or Barback can assist in set-up and break down as needed. In the event of a more complicated and/or heavy set up, we will also schedule stage hands to assist during set up and break down. 

BARTENDER: 

The bartender arrives one hour before doors open to set up and organize the bar. Throughout the event, they greet guests and serve and prepare drinks according to company and state regulations. They ensure all drinks are prepared and served according to company recipes and standards. Bartenders are responsible for monitoring guests’ alcohol consumption, ensuring they do not become overly intoxicated. They fill drink orders for guests, answering questions about drink ingredients and making suggestions for different types of beverages and cocktails. After closing duties, they will tip out Splinter Staff as follows. Bartenders must take the Basic Title 4 training within the first month of their employment at Splinter. Someone from the Splinter Admin Team will send you the link.

BARBACK: 

A Barback, or Bartender Assistant, is responsible for assisting Bartenders to ensure they have everything they need to serve customers efficiently. Their duties include replacing low stock of liquor and refrigerated beverages; restocking cups, napkins and other supplies needed to make drinks; refresh ice wells throughout the night; and maintaining a clean serving space throughout their shift. With the assistance of the Event Manager, the barback cleans spills, buses tables, and handles emergency situations, like cleaning up broken glasses and clearing up clogged drains.

DOOR: 

After completing opening duties, the door person greets each attendee and welcomes them to Splinter. As people arrive, the Door Person takes payment, gives change, and counts each person using a clicker counter. They never leave the bank or door unattended. The door person is expected to count their banks in and out. The door person stays to assist in closing duties which could include passing out marketing materials, event breakdown, and more.
