Sam and Nat here, your fashionably late co-executive directors of Splinter Collective.
We’re coming to you here on giving Tuesday to ask for your support. Our communities are under attack, with rampant anti-Trans bills, impending mass deportations, the increasing criminalization of poverty and houselessness, the scapegoating of critical race theory and diversity initiatives, and all the other terrible things we anticipate coming our way with the next administration.
Our collective staff is made up of folks with representative identities, which means that everyone who works here is some combination of Queer, Trans or gender expansive, Disabled, BIPOC and/or has lived experience of marginalization. We pay folks well above minimum wage and in order to do this we depend on the support of our members and donors… you.
2024 has been a hard year for us. We’ve had to do a lot of growing up, learning, restructuring, and honoring our diminished capacity. But we’ve also accomplished a lot. We’ve continued to host regular events that offer safer spaces for our communities. We’ve partnered with a Primavera, a local service provider to offer art programs for women in the shelter system. We’ve worked on community education, and taken over the circus and wellness focused movement space on site and we are beginning to offer open time for members to train and play in the space.
As proud as we are of what we’ve accomplished this year, we’re worried. In such an uncertain time, when the likelihood of federal funding being dramatically reduced or disappearing completely for organizations like ours, we really, really need your financial investment. Won’t you please consider donating today? Anything helps, really. We also operate on a membership model, and if you aren’t a member yet, please join us! We welcome local members, and members from afar. We welcome our people, and our allies who love our people. We send out semi-regular newsletters to members, host a monthly member connection on zoom, and are rolling out more exciting offerings just for members.
We’re also VERY excited to host our 3rd annual winter solstice Gala on Dec 21st with many amazing performers including our headliner the one and only Bobby Sanchez. Bobby is a 29 year old poet, musician, model, painter, and personal trainer. She identifies as trans as well as two-spirit in honor of her indigenous ancestry. Her music and artwork cover topics of indigenous identity, environmental issues, LGBTQ+ discrimination and liberation on all fronts.
