SUMMARY:The Beehive Collective
DESCRIPTION:The Beehive Design Collective is a wildly motivated\, all-volunteer\, activist arts collective dedicated to “cross-pollinating the grassroots” by creating collaborative\, anti-copyright images for use as educational and organizing tools. Working as word-to-image translators of complex global stories informed by affected communities\, the Beehive has launched graphics campaigns that have had major impacts in social and environmental movements worldwide. \nActive for a quarter-century\, the beed have distributed over a quarter million copies of their prints\, and have been invited to present their work\, tour\, and give lectures at conferences\, festivals\, galleries\, museums\, community centres and universities on every continent. Their MesoAmerica Resiste graphic took 23 members of the collective over 9 years to complete\, and they’ve recently published a rhyming storybook to complement their large mural artwork entitled “The True Cost of Coal” \nDoors 7pm \nShow 7:30pm

SUMMARY:Mimouna in the Desert
DESCRIPTION:Mimouna is an ancestral moroccan/n.african celebration of jewish and muslim relationships that happens on the last night of passover. Mimouna is Not zionist by definition\, and lifts up stories of arab jews living in shared community with their muslim neighbors. the week before passover\, moroccan jews would “sell” their chametz (flour/bread) to their muslim neighbors. on the last night\, jewish homes would open for celebration\, and muslim neighbors would be the first to bring over flour and other baked goods. throughout the year muslims and jews shared community\, social lives\, and economies. Mimouna was a time to stay up eating\, dancing\, and celebrating a new year for their relationships. “I’ve never heard of an arab jew\, who are they?” al-yahud al-arab arab jews are what we sound like: jews in diaspora from arab countries whose judaism is shaped and guided by our arab culture. arab jews have historic relationships with palestine and have had their identities erased and often co-opted by zionism -an ideology that never included us.
