The film… is considered a landmark in New Queer Cinema. It garnered controversy for a [hot ass] lesbian sex scene that prompted a writer for The Washington Times to question its NEA funding\, which in turn led to the NEA restructuring their grant system. In 2021\, The Watermelon Woman was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant.”” \n This film is a must see.  \nwe’ll be screening indoors at splinter collective’s studio nueve (9) \n901 n. 13th ave. \nand\, because it’s in studio nueve\, seats are limited. \n18+ (“mature” language and nudity) \ndoors at 8pm \nscreening at 830pm \nID check at the door  \n😷we ask that you wear your mask properly in between sips and bites.  \nfree tickets for BIPOC only and sliding scale community tickets available \nGiveButter.com/Prideteenth \n  \nclickable link below!
